Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
